Urinary incontinence is a widespread problem with significant social, psychological, and economic repercussions. Many patients are reluctant to discuss this problem with their physician; thus, incontinence often goes undiagnosed and untreated. Dr Knapp reviews the main types of incontinence and their causes and emphasizes the primary care physician's role in evaluating and treating this often reversible disorder.
