Advances in medical and surgical treatment have changed the management and prognosis of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. For many patients, therapy with proton pump inhibitors has improved survival times and eliminated the need for total gastrectomy. In this review article, Drs Qureshi and Rashid describe the clinical characteristics of the disorder, the laboratory tests important for establishing the diagnosis, and the current treatment options.
