Bone scintigraphy can uncover unique findings on its own as well as complement other imaging techniques. It has many important applications but is particularly valuable in assessing stress injuries, infection, metastatic disease, and metabolic bone disease. In this article, the authors review common indications for bone scintigraphy and offer guidelines on cost-effective application. In addition, they provide illustrations that show typical bone-scan findings in several conditions.
