Neuroimaging plays a pivotal role in the diagnosis of central nervous system (CNS) disorders. Although magnetic resonance imaging is being used with increasing frequency in assessment of CNS diseases, com' puted tomography continues to offer some advantages. To maximize neuroimaging's contribution to diagnosis, the choice of imaging modality must be based on indications and a knowledge of the modality's strengths and weaknesses.
