Tobacco legislation: time to right some wrongs

Abstract

In 1994, the attorneys general of four states brought suit against the tobacco industry to recoup costs from tobacco-related diseases. Before long, most other states (41 altogether) joined this creative, unprecedented maneuver to force accountability on an industry that had rarely lost individual patient lawsuits.
