In an unstable patient, whose hemodynamic, respiratory, or neurologic status can deteriorate quickly, significant morbidity or even death is likely unless prompt action is taken. The entire course is often affected substantially by what happens during the first 10 minutes of an emergency situation. In this article, Dr Dacey explains how to handle such situations expeditiously and improve the chances of survival for these patients.
