What is causing your patient's sexual dysfunction?

Uncovering a connection with hypertension and antihypertensive therapy

Erectile dysfunction affects the sexual performance, personal relationships, and self-esteem of millions of American men. Although the causes of erectile dysfunction vary, it is a significant side effect of many antihypertensive drugs and consequently is a major reason for noncompliance with therapy. This article reviews the mechanics of male sexual function and dysfunction, particularly in conjunction with hypertension and antihypertensive therapy, and discusses available treatment options.
