Chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) is often diagnosed following referral by primary care physicians. Although the exact cause is unknown, early diagnosis and intervention, as well as recent treatment advances, have increased the number of patients who are enjoying long-term, disease-free survival. The authors discuss common features of CML and treatment strategies that can maximize ultimate curability.
