PREVIEW

High blood pressure in a patient with diabetes compounds the risks of heart, kidney, and eye diseases. Although hypertension could be brought under control in most cases, it often is not. The temptation is to fault the patient for poor blood pressure control, but in fact, physicians and the healthcare system also impose barriers to effective treatment. In this article, the authors discuss these barriers and what can be done to overcome them. Next month, the third article on this topic will focus on how best to implement combination therapy to control hypertension in diabetic patients.
