As menopause approaches, many women find that the specters of Alzheimer's disease, coronary artery disease, and osteoporosis loom large. Consultation with a physician about estrogen or hormone replacement therapy can be invaluable in addressing these concerns. Here, Dr Nerhood discusses research findings about the effects of estrogen and hormone replacement therapy, pointing out what is known and acknowledging what is not yet resolved about how to best use such therapy to the advantage of postmenopausal women.
