Angiotensin II receptor blockers (ARBs) are effective antihypertensive agents that act by selectively inhibiting the AT1 subtype of the angiotensin II receptors. In this article, Dr Ramahi discusses the mechanisms of action for these medications and their potential role in the prevention and treatment of chronic heart failure (CHF), atherosclerotic arterial disease, post-myocardial infarction state, and chronic renal failure.
