A significant portion of the world's population is vulnerable to viruses that can be prepared as weapons of war. In the case of some viruses, preexposure vaccines or treatments, or both, are either nonexistent or in short supply. In this article, Drs Straight, Lazarus, and Decker describe the clinical presentation, diagnosis, management, and prevention of viral diseases that are a concern during this time of heightened awareness about terrorism.
