Identical clinical presentations of subtypes create diagnostic challenges

Microscopic colitis is being diagnosed with increasing frequency, but identifying this elusive condition remains a challenge. Although its symptoms are similar to those of other gastrointestinal disorders, it is overshadowed by more widely known and better understood diseases, such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. In this article, Drs Barto and Heller discuss the clinical presentation of microscopic colitis, the clues to diagnosis, and the available treatments.
