Abstract

Traffic congestion is a problem faced daily in modern life. Efforts to solve traffic congestions would also provide solutions to inter-related problems in social, economic, human resources, environment even involving life and death. One main factor for congestions is the increase of new vehicles used. The problem would escalate year by year. Hence the desperate need for a system that would be able to monitor the situations. One way of solving this problem is to develop a system that would be able to monitor the highway whereby information about impending congestion, i.e., images of traffic situations and their analyses which could be sent to the traffic police. This would be followed by encoding and transmitting the image via WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access) to the traffic police control room. The main goal of this work would be to design a model to assist traffic police in their work.
