As you all are aware, the aim of our journal is to help develop and to serve as a forum for the rapidly growing and exciting field of Dermato-Endocrinology, which has been unappreciated. Therefore, we are very pleased to announce that, at its first anniversary, Dermato-Endocrinology has been listed in PubMed Central (PMC)! At present, only the first issue appears in PubMed, for there is a year embargo with PMC. Therefore in March 2010, Issue 2 will appear, and so forth. We want to thank you all again for your great support and for helping to make the launch of our new journal a success! In this first year, more than 60 peer-reviewed high-quality contributions have been published in our journal. These contributions further add to the body of evidence that the skin represents a fascinating, unique and important endocrine organ that may also act in an autocrine or paracrine manner. Correlatives for many of the classical endocrine pathways, including parathyroid hormone related peptide-, thyroid hormone-, and vitamin D pathways have now also been found in the skin. Consequently, the cutaneous endocrine system is of high importance not only for a broad variety of common skin diseases, such as acne vulgaris, androgenetic alopecia and hirsutism, but also for systemic diseases. These facts have been highlighted by numerous contributions published in the first volume of Dermato-Endocrinology. Looking to the future, it is very important that we continue now publishing high quality articles in the upcoming issues to receive an adequate impact factor as soon as possible. Therefore, we would be indebted if you could continue you efforts to submit or to motivate colleagues to submit a paper to our journal via our online submission system (dermatoendocrinology.msubmit.net). Since Dermato-Endocrinology is a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary field, we shall continue to publish several types of papers from different specialties, including original research articles, reviews, and commentaries. Original papers cover topics important in the field, including aging, environmental health, epidemiology, epigenetics, genetics, gerontology, molecular biology, nutrition/nutrigenomics, oncology, physiology, pathophysiology, pharmacology, and photobiology. We realize that new developments in methodology and techniques are an important resource for the research community. Therefore, a section of the journal will address the latest developments in methodology. Occasionally, issues or supplementary issues will continue to cover international conferences specifically dedicated to the latest finding in several fields of endocrinology of the skin.

At present, we will continue to publish bimonthly, incrementally increasing the frequency to 12 issues over the years. Each issue will appear in print and online. We will continue to provide rapid peer review, handled online, and response to the authors. The average time from submission to communication of the decision of acceptance for Dermato-Endocrinology is less than one month. We and the editorial board shall support the maintenance of this rapid turn around of our research communities work. Once accepted, a paper is published online within three weeks.

We hope that we will continue our successful start and that our new journal will prosper to become a prominent venue for the fascinating field of Dermato-Endocrinology that has been underappreciated until recently!
