Summary

We define moves for king, queen, rook, bishop, and knight on a triangular honeycomb chessboard. Domination and independence numbers on this board for each piece are analyzed.

Joe DeMaio

Joe DeMaio ([email protected]) is a professor of mathematics at Kennesaw State University. He earned a B.S. and M.A. from Wake Forest and an M.S. and Ph.D. from Emory. His interests include realizing combinatorial identities through graphs, values in the domination chain, and Hamiltonicity. He occasionally disguises these topics as the mathematics of chessboard puzzles, to trick unsuspecting students into working with him.

Hong Lien Tran ([email protected]) recently graduated from Kennesaw State University with a B.S. in mathematics and a minor in statistics. She is actively involved in the Vietnamese Eucharistic Youth Society as a coordinator and youth leader. In her spare time, she enjoys designing, sewing, and solving Sudoku puzzles.
