Abstract
A stormwater management study has been initiated in the lower portion of the Rideau River basin within the Regional Municipality of Ottawa-Carleton. The purpose of the study is to establish the assimilative capacity of the river and pollutant loadings from upstream and urban sources with the aim of developing the most cost-effective way of controlling pollutants so as to maintain and possibly enhance the recreational use of the Rideau waterway within the urban area. The objectives and major activities of the study are outlined after a brief review of present stormwater management facilities.
Une étude de la gestion des eaux pluviales a été entreprise dans la partie urbanisée du bassin de la rivière Rideau à l’intérieur de la municipalité régionale d’Ottawa-Carleton. Le but de l’étude est d’établir la capacité d’assimilation de la rivière Rideau et les charges polluantes émanant de sources urbaines de l’amont de la rivière. Ceci permettra de développer la façon la plus efficace et la plus rentable de contrôler la pollution afin de maintenir et peut-être d’augmenter l’usage récréatif de cette voie navigable dans la région urbaine. Les objectifs et les activités majeures de l’étude sont décrits après une brève revue des dispositifs de contrôle des eaux pluviales.
