INVESTIGATING WHETHER A LARGE HYDRO DEVELOPMENT CAN BE ENVIRONMENTALLY COMPATIBLE: THE SLAVE RIVER HYDRO FEASIBILITY STUDY

Pages 47-62 | Published online: 23 Jan 2013

Abstract

A feasibility study is currently underway in Alberta to assess a possible hydroelectric development of the order of 2000 megawatts on the Slave River. In light of the hydro potential of the Slave River, this paper discusses certain principles underlying the environmental aspects of the feasibility study and outlines some provisional findings at the interim stage of the study.
