PROVISION OF ENERGY REQUIREMENTS FOR REMOTE COMMUNITIES BY SMALL-SCALE HYDRO DEVELOPMENT

Pages 143-162 | Published online: 23 Jan 2013

Abstract

A potential exists for utilizing small prefabricated hydroelectric generating stations, developed and installed in a manner compatible with the environment, to meet the electrical power requirements of smaller communities isolated from the distribution network. This paper discusses the prefabricated station concept and development in general, with specific details of two installations in Ontario, and potential future applications. In all instances particular attention is afforded to design features that enhance environmental compatibility.
