THREE CASE STUDIES OF SMALL SCALE HYDRO IN NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR

Pages 163-177 | Published online: 23 Jan 2013

Abstract

Newfoundland and Labrador has a number of coastal communities in remote areas which in some cases are accessible only by boat. Due to increasing costs of oil-based generation, Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro has undertaken technical, economic and environmental studies to identify alternative means of supplying electricity to these communities. Case studies are used to illustrate the variety of environmental problems which can be encountered with small scale hydro developments.
