Pages 27-37 | Published online: 23 Jan 2013

Abstract

The present study is intended to improve our present knowledge of the hydrologic behaviour of large reservoirs, mainly on the estimation of natural inflows, in order to put forward some explanations of the large variability encountered in hydrograms determined from the water level data recorded on one limnigraph. Besides the fact that this paper examines the inherent characteristics of the hydrogram obtained for the watershed in which the reservoir occupies a relatively important area, the general hydrologic behaviour of the basin is described as well as the seasonal variation of its hydrogram through different compontents of its water balance. This analysis is done through the examination of three case studies of reservoirs exploited for hydroelectric power—Manic 5, Gouin and Cabonga (Quebec).
