Abstract
This study examined the impact of a brief, community-based parenting program, known as P5, on parental report of disruptive child behaviour. The program is based on Adlerian and Behavioural principles, and, to our knowledge, has received no empirical attention to date. Sixty-five parents of children with a mean age of 6.41 years participated. At postintervention, parents reported significantly lower levels of disruptive child behaviour, with over half of the children showing clinically reliable improvement in their behaviour. Oppositional defiant symptoms showed the most significant reductions from pre- to postintervention. P5 would also appear to help parents who are reporting clinical levels of disruptive behaviour in their children, as well as those dealing with severe oppositional, inattentive, and conduct-related symptoms.
