Abstract
The motivation to start a home-based business (HBB) in the aesthetics industry and the path to success of such a business in Puerto Rico is explored. While start up motivations (control of time and money) are similar to other HBBs, certain characteristics distinguish an HBB in the aesthetics industry in Puerto Rico. The aesthetics industry is federally regulated, and therefore, a quality image is necessary for success. The aesthetics industry mandates education and a pre-established clientele for the successful start of an HBB. Here we created the Entrepreneurial Development Path (EDP) model to illustrate the path to success for an aesthetics HBB.
