Pairing of intelligent design concept method and kano model for product development

Abstract

The deployment of scientific approach to customers’ voice by means of customer science to achieve a good product development process. This model means implementing Customer Kano Model for turning the design perception into a precise knowledge as more creative activities from the hidden knowledge of designing using statistical science. The model has been applied to product design process and the results obtained are shown. An application of Kano CAGE model has further given the option of customer centric evaluations and which leads to an optimum product development process. A concept is arrived at and importance is given to Kano model.

Dr P. S. Senthil Kumar is currently the Professor and Head of Mechanical Engineering Department at Kalignar Karunanidhi Institute of Technology, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu, India. He obtained his postgraduate degree in Product Design and Development, Mechanical Engineering, from Sona College of Technology, Anna University, Chennai, India. He has 8 years of experience in corporates and 10 years of experience as an academician in reputed engineering colleges.

S Balasubramanian

Dr S. Balasubramanian is currently the Principal of Rathinam Institute of Technology, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu, India. He obtained his doctoral degree in Mechanical Engineering from Anna University, Chennai, India. His areas of specialisation are manufacturing technology, intellectual property rights, business process reengineering, enterprise resource planning, and software project and quality management. He was the Director of Intellectual Property Rights, Anna University, Coimbatore, India, for 3 years.

R K Suresh

Dr R. K. Suresh obtained his Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Government College of Technology, Coimbatore, India. He obtained his ME and PhD degrees in Production Engineering and Mechanical Engineering from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, India, in 1994 and 2005, respectively. He has 25 years of academic experience as a faculty researcher and consulting engineer. He has served the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Amrita University, Coimbatore, India, for 13 years (from 1996-2008) as faculty member in various capacity including Senior Professor and Vice Chairman of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. In June 2008, he became the founder Principal of PA College of Engineering and Technology, Pollachi, India, where he served for 3 years.
