Abstract

Quadrature element formulation for material non-linear analysis of composite beams with partial interaction is derived on the basis of the Newmark kinematical model. The quadrature element method is characterised by direct evaluation of the integrals involved in the variational description of a problem. The number of integration points in a quadrature element is adjustable in accordance with convergence requirement. A representative case is studied and results are compared with finite element solutions. It is shown that high computational accuracy and efficiency are achieved using the quadrature element method.
