J.F. Schreiner. (1983) Two important physiological processes are the deposition of aerosol in the human lung and its subsequent clearance. These phenomena may be observed with a radioactive aerosol and a gamma camera. The resulting images can be analyzed on several levels. One level is the whole-lung deposition and clearance rate. A more sophisticated approach involves image analysis. This paper discusses quantitative procedures introduced at the section of environmental medicine for lung image analysis. Various indices permit examination of deposition and clearance pattern, in addition to overall rate..
