The Gaza Strip: A Case of Economic De-Development

Sara Roy Sara Roy is the author of The Gaza Strip Survey, published in 1986 under the auspices of the West Bank Data Base Project. She is currently completing a doctorate in international development at Harvard University for which she is writing on the effects of a U.S. government-funded program of economic development assistance to the West Bank and Gaza Strip. This article is an abridged version of a paper presented at a conference entitled, “The West Bank and Gaza Strip: An International Symposium,” 28 February–1 March 1987, held at the Fletcher School of International Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, Medford, Massachusetts.
