Effect of Pseudomonas Fluorescent Rhizobacteria on Growth and Seed Quality in Lentil (Lens Culinaris Medik.)

ABSTRACT

Modern agriculture has become more productive, sustainable, and environmentally friendly. Therefore, the use of rhizobacterial in agriculture for sustainable crop production is becoming more and more important. The present study was aimed to determine the effect of Pseudomonas fluorescens bacterium on the growth of plant, yield and seed nutrient content in lentil (Lens Culinaris Medik.). The field experiments were carried out during two seasons of 2013–2014 and 2014–2015 under the conditions of Southeastern Anatolia of Turkey. The experiment consisted of four Pseudomonas fluorescent (no treatment; inoculated seeds; foliar treatment and inoculated seeds + foliar treatment) applications. The results showed that the application of Pseudomonas fluorescent rhizobacteria had significant effects on plant growth, yield, and yield components and seed nutrient content in lentil. The results also showed that the inoculated seed + foliar application is more important for yield and yield components, and foliar application is more important for seed nutrient content. Consequently, studies on the use of such beneficial microorganisms are necessary for a sustainable ecological agricultural and production.
