The therapeutic group in adolescence: A process of intersubjectivation

ABSTRACT

This article analyses group processes in adolescence through therapeutic group interventions. The authors propose to analyse the group aspect, cross-identifications and projective identifications of the adolescent subjectivation process. In which ways does the adolescent subjectivation process need to go through a process of intersubjectivation? This involves a consideration of observable intersubjectivity in a therapeutic group with troubled adolescents. After redefining the notion of subjectivation process and its various manifestations in adolescent psychopathology, the authors further analyse the complex implications of this notion, from the point of view of object cathexes and of links to others. The task is to establish a metapsychology of links to introduce therapeutic psychoanalytic groups into psychic dynamics: in particular, the authors discuss the methodology of theatre-mediated therapeutic psychoanalytic groups, from which the clinical vignette discussed is taken. A case study of a group of adolescents discovers the haphazardness of the link to the other, as a cornerstone towards reinitializing the process of subjectivation that has been hindered in members of the group, and as a way of resuming self-reflectiveness and the reimagining of the self.

Cet article analyse le processus groupal à l’adolescence à partir du dispositif thérapeutique de groupe à médiation. Les auteurs proposent de penser la part groupale, d’identification croisées et d’identifications projectives, du processus de subjectivation adolescent. En quoi le processus de subjectivation adolescent doit en passer par un processus d’inter-subjectivation avec d’autres? Il s’agit de considérer l’intersubjectivité observable en groupe thérapeutique avec adolescents en mal-être. Après une redéfinition de la notion de processus de subjectivation et ses aléas dans la psychopathologie adolescente, les auteurs analysent plus avant les implications complexes de cette notion, du point de vue des investissements pulsionnels objectaux et des liens aux autres. Il s’agit de dresser une métapsychologie des liens introduisant aux enjeux psychiques des groupes thérapeutiques psychanalytiques. Ils exposent plus particulièrement la méthodologie des groupes thérapeutiques à médiation par le théâtre, cadre duquel la vignette clinique exposée est issue. Un cas de groupe d’adolescents permet la mise en évidence de la découverte de l’aléatoire du lien à l’autre par les adolescents, comme une pierre angulaire de la reprise du processus de subjectivation entravé des membres du groupe, et comme modalité de reprise d’un rapport réflexif différenciant, dans un imaginaire de soi à soi.

Dieser Beitrag analysiert Gruppenprozesse in der Adoleszenz anhand therapeutischer Gruppeninterventionen. Die Autoren schlagen vor, den gruppendynamischen Aspekt sowie Kreuzidentifikationen und projektive Identifizierungen im Subjektivierungsprozess der Adoleszenz zu untersuchen. Inwieweit muss der Subjektivierungsprozess von Jugendlichen einen Prozess der Intersubjektivierung durchlaufen? Hierbei erfolgt die Betrachtung der wahrnehmbaren Intersubjektivität in einer Therapiegruppe mit gestörten Jugendlichen. Nach einer Neudefinition des Begriffs des Subjektivierungsprozesses und dessen vielfältigen Erscheinungsformen in der Psychopathologie von Jugendlichen untersuchen die Autoren darüber hinaus die komplexen Implikationen dieses Begriffs aus dem Blickwinkel der Objektbesetzungen und den Bindungen zu anderen Menschen. Ziel ist es, eine Metapsychologie der Bindungen zu begründen, um die analytische Gruppenpsychotherapie in psychische Dynamiken einzuführen: In diesem Zusammenhang greifen die Autoren insbesondere die Methodik der Theatermediation bei analytischer Gruppenpsychotherapie heraus, in der auch die im Beitrag besprochene klinische Vignette ihren Ursprung hat. Eine Fallstudie einer Gruppe von Jugendlichen enthüllt die Zufälligkeit der Bindung zum Anderen als einen der Grundsteine für ein Wiederaufleben des Subjektivierungsprozesses, der bei den Gruppenmitgliedern behindert wurde – und als Weg einer Wiederaufnahme der Selbstreflexion und einer neuen Vorstellung vom Selbst.

El presente artículo analiza los procesos grupales en la adolescencia a través de intervenciones terapéuticas en grupos. Los autores proponen analizar el aspecto grupal, de identificaciones cruzadas e identificaciones proyectivas, en el proceso de subjetivación adolescente. ¿De qué manera el proceso de subjetivación adolescente requiere pasar por un proceso de intersubjetivación? Esto implica considerar la intersubjetividad observable en un grupo terapéutico con adolescentes perturbados. Luego de redefinir la noción de proceso de subjetivación y sus variadas manifestaciones en la psicopatología adolescente, los autores analizan más a fondo las complejas implicaciones de tal noción, desde el punto de vista de las catexias objetales y los vínculos con otros. Se trata de establecer una metapsicología de los vínculos para introducir a los grupos psicoanalíticos terapéuticos en dinámicas psíquicas: analizan, en particular, la metodología de los grupos psicoanaliticos terapéuticos a través del teatro, de donde se extrae la viñeta clínica presentada. Un estudio de caso sobre un grupo de adolescentes descubre la aleatoriedad del vínculo con el otro como piedra angular para el reinicio del proceso de subjetivación que había estado trabado en los miembros del grupo, y como una forma de reanudar la reflexión sobre sí mismo y la reimaginación del self.
