1. A taxonomic treatise of this size and complexity will inevitably include a nomenclatural error or two. In the process of updating AlgaeBase (www.AlgaeBase.org), our friend and colleague Mike Guiry noticed that the authors place Kumanoa montagnei Entwisle, M.L. Vis, Chiasson, Necchi & A.R. Sherwood 2009 into synonymy with K. tortuosa (Kumano) E.T. Johnston, P.E. Lim & M.L. Vis 2014 (based on Batrachospermum tortuosum Kumano 1978) but mistakenly use the former name. Kumanoa tortuosa has priority at species level.
