Brian Dowdle

Brian Dowdle is an Associate Professor and Co-Chair in the department of World Languages and Cultures. His work focuses on the reception and reproduction of late Edo-period literature (1790-1868) during the Meiji Period (1868-1912) and the formation of modern Japanese literature. He is the author of "Why Saikaku Was Memorable but Bakin Was Unforgettable," published in The Journal of Japanese Studies in 2016.
