Abstract

This paper reports the tensile and impact deformation behavior of an auxetic warp-knitted fabric by using the finite element method. The geometrical model of the fabric was obtained from experimental fabric. Tensile and impact deformation behaviors of different auxetic geometrical models were simulated based on the Abaqus software. The finite element (FE) analysis showed that the FE simulation could well predict the tensile and impact behaviors of the auxetic fabric. The auxetic effect of auxetic fabric structural model is related to the angle θ and the long/short rib ratios. The impact resistance of auxetic fabric structural model is also related to angle θ and impact velocity; however it is nothing to do with the long/short rib ratios.
