Research on knitting technique and wearability assessment of underarm stitching for complete garments

Abstract

Underarm stitching plays a critical role in achieving complete garments knitted from three tubes to one tube by connecting the sleeve and body. For complete garments, underarm stitching is performed simultaneously during the knitting process. Currently, various knitting methods can be used to achieve the underarm stitching of the complete garment knitted on X-bed machines. In order to profoundly grasp the knitting process as well as the influences of different techniques on the performance in wear of underarm regions. This work explored seven diverse types of techniques and showed the knitting notations for each process. Afterwards, the tensile tests of underarm areas were conducted and a comprehensive system for evaluating the comfort property of underarm regions was established based on fuzzy mathematics. This research aims to provide a reference for academicians and related personnel who require information in complete garment technology and industrial production.
