Abstract

In this paper, five kinds of multilayer bionic fabrics with angle interlocking structure were researched, which can be applied in protective clothing. The basic characteristics, thermal resistance, moisture resistance, warmth retention rate and thermal conductivity rate of these fabrics were tested. In addition, the linear relationship between the related thermal properties and basic characteristics was obtained. Also, the correlation coefficient was determined via regression analysis. Further analysis results show that thickness, coverage factor and porosity are the major considerations for multilayer fabrics, which have impacts on thermal and moisture performance. Understanding the link between the characteristics and thermal comfortable properties will help the development of the multilayer fabrics. Finally, the dipping process has influenced on the thermal and moisture properties. This project provides a significant method to fabricate multilayer textiles by selecting the appropriate process and lays the foundation for a new type of thermal protective clothing with a cocoon-like hierarchy.
