Abstract

Our present study evaluates the performance of wound dressing material fabricated by incorporating silver(Ag) and titanium dioxide(TiO2) nanoparticles(NPs) in xylan/chitosan-based conjugate matrix. The porous nanocomposites were examined for antimicrobial, cell attachment, swelling, protein adsorption, and cytotoxic studies. Nanocomposites exhibited potent antimicrobial response against both gram-negative and gram-positive strains of bacteria. Despite remarkable cellular response, a concentration-dependent cytotoxicity was observed in matrix with high Ag NPs content. Nanoparticles incorporated composites also tuned the pore size, swelling ratio, and protein adsorption tendency of scaffold making them feasible as wound dressing material.
