Abstract

In the present research, heparin (1 μg/ml, 5 μg/ml) and thyroxine (1 μg/ml, 5 μg/ml) loaded wound dressings were prepared. Ultrastructure of the developed scaffolds revealed by scanning electron microscope and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy proved them an attractive choice for skin tissue engineering. Drug release kinetics showed maximum release (95%) of thyroxine by day 3 compared to the heparin having sustained release until the endpoint of the assay. The angiogenic abilities of synthesized materials were evaluated through chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay. Our findings demonstrate that the developed scaffolds are the promising choice for wound healing applications especially with regards to their angiogenic properties.
