CFD analysis on particle diameter in hydrogen-enriched diesel engine for different piston bowl geometries

Abstract

Hydrogen is considered as one of the best alternative fuels for internal combustion engines because of its unique combustion properties. Especially, after impingement of the spray against a combustion chamber of the piston, the spatial distribution of the droplet diameter is one of the most important factors for exhaust emissions, but it is complex to study sufficiently because of the difficulties encountered in measuring the droplet diameter. To achieve controlled combustion, an attempt is made to investigate the effect of change in bowl geometry and its special distribution in the combustion chamber of a diesel engine with and without the enrichment of Hydrogen. The objective of this study is to analyse the effect on particle diameter of the injected fuel to the combustion chamber with hydrogen enriched with 2 LPM flow rate with diesel fuel and compare the results using the CFD analysis for different combustion bowl geometries.
