Revolutions in the emergence of discourse processes research

Pages 290-292 | Published online: 23 Apr 2024

ABSTRACT

Starting with the early 1970s and culminating with current large language models, I describe how Walter Kintsch’s research was so transformative to language studies. I focus on the major changes in his research program and show how revolutionary each was. Sprinkling it with a few personal experiences, I show why Kintsch was such a leader in developing the field of discourse processes research as we know it.
