ABSTRACT

The potassium removal capacity of BaO-bearing blast furnace slags was investigated. The influence of basicity (CaO/SiO2), Al2O3 and BaO content on potassium removal capacity was analysed by combining with the activity of K2O in slag. The relationship between optical basicity and potassium removal capacity of slag was also studied. The results showed the temperature and basicity had a great influence on the potassium removal capacity. The increasing temperature and basicity made the reduction reaction of K2O enhance, leading to a significant decrease in potassium removal capacity. The activity of K2O in slag decreased with Al2O3 content increasing, which inhibited the reduction reaction of K2O, leading to the increase in potassium removal capacity. BaO had a slight effect on the potassium removal capacity, and the remaining K2O content in slag decreased with BaO content increasing from 0% to 5%. The higher optical basicity was, the weaker potassium removal capacity was.
