ABSTRACT
Non-uniform distribution of burden is the main cause of circumferential imbalance in the blast furnace. Several techniques have been devised by researchers and blast furnace operators across the globe to quantify the circumferential imbalance in the blast furnace either by measuring the top gas composition or by assessing the amount of coke and ferrous burden charges across the circumference of the furnace. There is no work published for measuring the root cause of circumferential imbalance in the blast furnace due to non-uniform burden distribution. This paper aims to quantify the root cause of the circumferential imbalance in the furnace using different indices along with their formulation and implementation strategy in the blast furnace.
