Novel Detectors for Massive MU-MIMO Communications

Abstract

The massive multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) can be adapted to meet the increasing requirement of data throughput services in wireless transmission systems. The combination of the Single Carrier Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) with the massive MU-MIMO technology can be employed for the uplink transmission to meet the requirement of data rates and error performance. In this paper, for practical implementation, we integrate multi-user detection, Kalman channel estimation and turbo equalization and propose turbo detectors to solve the problem of huge computation load of matrix inversion at receiver side. The proposed low-complexity detectors are based on Neumann series expansion, successive over-relaxation (SOR), and symmetric successive over-relaxation (SSOR) principles. Simulation examples in the uplink scenario are given for the proposed low-complexity turbo detectors to demonstrate the comparisons and effectiveness of the proposed schemes.

Ye-Shun Shen

Ye-Shun Shen received the PhD degree in communication engineering from the National Cheng Kung University, Tainan, Taiwan, in 2004. From 1993 to 2005, he was a Senior Engineer in Chunghwa Telecom. Since August 2005 he has been with the Department of Aeronautical Engineering, National Formosa University, Huwei Township, Yunlin county, Taiwan. His research interests include spread spectrum communications, wireless access technologies, and coding theory.

Fang-Biau Ueng

Fang-Biau Ueng received the PhD degree in electronic engineering from the National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan, in 1995. From 1996 to 2001, he was with National Space Program Office (NSPO) of Taiwan as an associate researcher. From 2001 to 2002, he was with Siemens Telecommunication Systems Limited (STSL), Taipei, Taiwan, where he was involved in the design of mobile communication systems. Since February 2002, he has been with the Department of Electrical Engineering, National Chung-Hsing University, Taichung, Taiwan. Chin-Yang Kung

Chin-Yang Kung was born in Taipei, Taiwan, in 1992. He received the BSc degree in electrical engineering from Tamkang University (TKU), Taipei, Taiwan, in 2012 and the MSc degree in communications engineering from the National Chung Hsing University (NCHU).
