Speed Sensorless Vector Controlled SMPMSM Drive Based on Modified MRAS with Single Current Sensor

Abstract

New speed estimation technique is proposed in this paper. This is used to formulate a single current sensor-based vector controlled surface mounted (SM) permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive. A combination of dc-link measurement and model reference adaptive scheme (MRAS) is adopted for the implementation of speed sensorless control. Unlike existing MRAS that make use of both dq-axes currents/flux/voltages, the proposed approach has simplified adaptive mechanism based on q-axis current only. The proposed technique is less complex, stable at low speed, less expensive. The proposed technique is simulated in MATLAB/Simulink and validated experimentally through dsPIC MCHV-2 based laboratory prototype.

Jyoti Agrawal received her bachelor's degree from Anjuman College of Engineering and Technology, Nagpur, India in 2009 and post-graduated from GH Raisoni college of Engineering, Nagpur in 2011. She is a merit holder in her graduation degree awarded by RTMNU, Nagpur, India. She completed her doctoral studies in electrical engineering from RTMNU, Nagpur, India in 2018. She is an assigned reviewer for major international journals. She is a life time member of Indian Society for Technical Education (ISTE). She is presently working at TSSM's Bhivarabai Sawant College of Engineering, Pune, India. She is an active NAAC/NBA committee member in her current institution and heads the R&D cell. Her research interests are electrical machines, AC/DC drives, power electronics and control systems.

Sanjay Bodkhe

Sanjay Bodkhe received his bachelor's degree from Walchand College of Engineering, Sangli in 1990 and PG degree from VRCE, Nagpur in 1996. He completed his doctoral studies from VNIT, Nagpur, India in 2011. He has authored two books on electrical engineering, contributed to the curriculum design and development both at UG & PG level and has acted as evaluator for the accreditation of academic engineering programmes. He has served in different capacities like head of department, dean academics and others. Presently, he is working as professor of electrical engineering at Shri Ramdeobaba College of Engineering and Management, Nagpur, India.
