Assessing the Internalized Homophobia Scale for Gender Invariance

Abstract

The original and revised versions of the Internalized Homophobia Scale (IHP) were examined for gender invariance. The revised version was found to have a better fit, and passed the test of configural, metric, and scalar invariance. The revised version is recommended as a brief measure of internalized heterosexism.

Debbiesiu L. Lee is an Associate Professor in Counseling/Counseling Psychology at the University of Miami. Her research interests center on coping and outcomes related to discrimination; racial, sexual, and gender identity development; intersectionality; and social justice/multicultural competence development and training. She is an Associate Editor of the Journal of Multicultural Counseling and Development and serves on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Counseling Psychology, Asian American Journal of Psychology, Journal of Men and Masculinity, and Psychotherapy.
