Diamela Eltit

Diamela Eltit (Chile, 1949) is a novelist and essayist, and a professor at the Universidad Tecnológica Metropolitana. Among her most notable works are Lumpérica (1983); Por la patria (1986; For the Homeland); Los trabajadores de la muerte (1998; The Workers of Death); Fuerzas especiales (Santiago de Chile: Seix Barral, 2013; Special Forces), from which the following excerpt is taken; Réplicas: Escritos sobre literatura, arte, y política (2016; Replicas: Writings on Literature, Art, and Politics); and Sumar (2018; Summing Up). From 1991 to 1994, she was the Cultural Attaché of the Chilean Embassy in Mexico. In 2018, she received the Premio Nacional de Literatura.
