Samy Benmayor
Samy Benmayor (Santiago de Chile, 1956) studied at the University of Chile’s School of Fine Arts (1976-80), and in 1987 participated in the exhibition “Chile Vive” (Chile Lives) at the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Madrid. Over the last four decades, Benmayor has built an intense, systematic, experiential visual record that is both personal and collective, experimenting with the creative possibilities of different media. In 1992, he represented Chile in the Venice Biennial. In 2008, the Marlborough Gallery in New York presented his show “Placeres Prohibidos” (Forbidden Pleasures). His work has been exhibited primarily in Italy, Spain, Argentina, Mexico, the United States, and Germany.
