Senel Paz
Senel Paz (Cuba, 1950) is a narrative writer and scriptwriter for film. Most notable among his literary works are the novels Un rey en el jardín (1983; A King in the Garden) and En el cielo con diamantes (2007; In the Sky with Diamonds); and the short story El lobo, el bosque y el hombre nuevo (1991; The Wolf, the Forest, and the New Man), which he adapted for the film Strawberry and Chocolate (1994). Paz has also written works for the theater. He has been awarded the Premio Nacional de Cine, among other national and international awards. He lives in Havana.
The prolific translator of major Latin American works from the twentieth century until the present, Suzanne Jill Levine’s books include Manuel Puig and the Spider Woman: His Life and Fictions and The Subversive Scribe: Translating Latin American Fiction. Her latest translation is Guadalupe Nettel’s Bezoar and Other Unsettling Stories (2020).
