A frequency reconfigurable filtering antenna based on stepped impedance resonator

ABSTRACT

In this paper, a novel frequency reconfigurable filtering antenna is proposed for modern wireless communication systems. The feed network is composed of a stepped impedance resonator filter and a 50-Ω microstrip line. PIN diodes are used to switch the antenna to operate at either an ultra-wideband state or a dual-band state. For the dual-band state, the antenna operates at both 3.35 and 5.2 GHz. The measured results on tuning range, radiation patterns, and realized gains are provided, which show a good agreement with the numerical simulations.

Jingyu Cui received the B.S. degree in information engineering from Nanchang University, Nanchang, China, in 2015. She is currently pursuing the PhD degree in Electromagnetic and Microwave Engineering from Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, China. Her current research interests include filtering antennas.

Anxue Zhang

Anxue Zhang received the BS degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Henan Normal University, Xinxiang, China, in 1996, and the MS and PhD degrees in Electromagneticand Microwave Engineering from Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, China, in 1999 and 2003, respectively. He is currently a Professor with Xi'an Jiaotong University. His current research interests include antenna design, RF and microwave circuit design, array signal processing, and metamaterials.

Zixian Wu

Zixian Wu was born in Luoyang,Henan, P. R. China, in 1994. Hereceived the BE degree in InformationEngineering from Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, China, in 2015, and iscurrently working toward the PhD'sdegree in Microwave Technology atXi'an Jiaotong University. His research interests includeelectromagnetic compatibility, design of antennas andmicrowave circuits.

Sen Yan

Sen Yan received his Bachelor and Master degrees in Information and Telecommunication engineering from Xi’an Jiaotong University, China, in 2007 and 2010, respectively, and the PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from KU Leuven, Belgium in 2015. After that, he was a postdoctoral research fellow in the same institute. He obtained “Young Talent Support Plan” of Xi’an Jiaotong University, China in 2017, and is currently a full professor there. Prof. Yan’s current research is focused on microwave metamaterials and metasurfaces, wearable devices and textile antennas, antenna diversity and microwave biosensors.
