Phase transitions and spiral defects of active liquid crystal polymers from a closure model

ABSTRACT

A closure model is derived from the kinetic theory for active suspensions of liquid crystal polymers. Numerical simulations of the closure model are then performed to investigate the phase transitions and spiral defects of the active suspension in certain parameter range.

Dr Ruhai Zhou got his PhD in Applied Mathematics from University of New Mexico in 2001. He is currently a professor in Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Old Dominion University. He works on scientific computation and numerical simulations of liquid crystals.
