ABSTRACT

This annotated bibliography presents resources on writing for museums sorted into six categories, including writing for clarity, writing for the senses, writing for story, writing with respect to polyvocality, writing (specifically) for museums, and writing for the journey The goal is to encourage museum professionals to gather more confidence and skills in their writing.

Susan B. Spero

Susan B. Spero, Ph.D. taught education, interpretation and new technology in Museum Studies at the John F. Kennedy University for 30 years, as Full Professor and as the final Chair of the Department. She is a former MER board member, serving most years as a part of the editorial team. As a professor, working with words has permeated her long tenure. She has helped panicked students practice writing, and has supported the writing of emerging professionals and experienced colleagues. This issue represents her keen interest in breaking down myths related to writing in order to make the complex nature of museum writing more visible and inviting to those who are hesitant to write.
