Factors Implicated with Firm-Level ICT Use in Developing Economies

ABSTRACT

Given the growing prominence of developing economies in the world, we investigate the factors associated with firm-level information and communication technology (ICT) use across three developing countries with different economic magnitude and infrastructure. Our results obtained from PLS-SEM model using a large-N sample, reveal that organizational factors play a greater role in ICT use when compared to the perception of external barriers. The study confirms the positive effect of firm size and international quality certification on ICT use. It provides a new perspective by explicating how these effects vary based on macro-level factors such as internet infrastructure.

Faruk Arslan received his Ph.D. in Information Systems from the University of Texas at El Paso in 2015 and presently serves as an Assistant Professor of Information Systems at New Mexico State University. He has 17 years of industry experience in the U.S.A., Turkey, Mexico, and various European countries. His research has been published in the Journal of Information Privacy and Security, as well as AMCIS, GITMA, and Decision Sciences conference proceedings. His research interests include information privacy, data-driven decision making, the business value of information systems, and global diversity of information systems.

Kallol K. Bagchi

Kallol K. Bagchi received a Ph. D. in Comp. Science from Jadavpur University in India in 1986 and a Ph. D in Business from Florida Atlantic University in 2001. He has published in journals such as CACM, Behaviour & Information Technology, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of World Business, Information & Management, JGITM etc. His research interests include human values, adoption and diffusion of ICT products, global information technology, insourcing and outsourcing etc. He is a Professor of CIS at the University of Texas at El Paso.

Peeter Kirs

Peeter Kirs received his Ph.D. in Information Systems from the State University of NY (SUNY) Buffalo in 1987, and presently serves as a Professor of Computer Information Systems at the University of Texas at El Paso. He has published in journals such as MISQ, Management Science, Decision Sciences, CACM, Behaviour & Information Technology, Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of World Business, Information & Management, along with many other journals. His research interests include the impact of human values on information system adoption, usage and diffusion, global information technology, insourcing and outsourcing.
